Real-life Story Magazines and their Conventions
Entry number 5- What is a Real-life Story Magazine and their Conventions:
A real life story magazine is based on true events and stories from people who could be readers of the magazine. It includes love stories, true crime, miracles and valuable life lessons (e.g. mental health).
Some examples of real-life magazines are: 'That's life!'; 'True story'; 'Happiful'; 'Chat'; and 'W I life'.
Conventions of real-life story magazines:
- Skyline includes the masthead which is the title block for the magazine and normally the most eye catching convention
- Selling line/strapline - subheading that is usually at the top
- Slogan to catch the reader’s eye and engages the audience against rivals
- Anchor - text explain or reinforcing an image
- Main cover line – uses a dramatic story to attract readers, main magazine focus and target would be 16-25 year olds
- Cover lines (kickers) - tells reader what articles are featured (mostly stories)
- Feature - many different stories
- Centre image which features the main model – usually a close up and uses direct adress
