Statement of intent
Statement of intent:
How do you intend to use the four areas of the media theoretical framework to communicate meaning and meet the requirements of your chosen brief? (approx. 400 words)
Product 1:
My print publication includes 2 magazine front covers and 2 contents pages. This was attained through various in-depth research of both digital and physical real life magazine copies, all my work is shown on my blog ( https://loiskomedia.blogspot.com/ ). I also gathered primary facts and statistics about my target audience (16-25 year olds) using a self made online questionnaire, I found out their exact preferences to include in my magazine. Furthermore, as an employee of Bauer media, I have ensured to include their ethos to enrich everyday life in a creative way. I have named my magazine 'Persona' because it means how one's character is perceived and could be a false image and my magazine is tailored to being yourself and mental health. I have chosen to use a serif font to communicate professionalism making the magazine seem trustworthy to vulnerable people tackling exam stress and other problems. The large bold font follows real life magazine conventions as it is eye catching. Media language and representation are key components of my magazines, for example: A girl smiling to the camera even though in a wheelchair connotes happiness, man gazing down at camera in glasses connotes intelligence. Colours also have great significance in creating meaning and atmosphere, for example: blue connoting calmness or serenity, yellow connoting caution or threat, pink connoting love and kindness, green connoting to balance and nature. This knowledge allows me to design the magazine based on how the target audience would react and become emotionally engaged. Retail will be sold in weekly and monthly subscriptions similarly to other Bauer real life magazines.
Product 2:
My website layout and design has taken a simplistic, fashionable approach after researching many real life magazine sites. The home page includes conventions such as a logo button linking back to the homepage and a menu bar with different categories so browsing is easier for the audience. My colour scheme for the homepage is neat and coordinates with the prints itself as it is not 'tacky' but more so 'aesthetic' which can appeal to the target audience who are young adults that enjoy the 'professional, sophisticated look'.
How do you intend to link your media products to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of the digitally convergent nature of your media production? (approx. 100 words)
Convergence lets audiences use one platform to consume various types of media texts. In order to create a digital convergence between my two products, I will be including elements of my magazine into my website the front covers of both my magazines in the website. My website's front page will display both my magazine covers and have some of the featured stories. Furthermore, I will use social media platforms such as Instagram and Facebook to further cross promote the magazine, hence the website will also include hyperlinks to the accounts. Additionally, due to technological advancements the magazines will be available online on an app and in print.
