Website comparison

Website entry 4: Comparison

Happiful and Platinum are both real life websites that compliment their magazine brand. These two websites stay in line with the majority of the conventions of a real life website, however they do slightly differ in their representations of stories and layout.

Happiful:

-  The masthead is placed in the top left corner of the website using its usual bold serif typeface seen on its magazines (the font is not that big)

-  Next to the masthead, is the navigation bar in a much smaller but capitalized font to emphasise that they are topics of importance in terms of different stories and it is a way to easily access the types of articles you my want to read

-  A dark/bold textbox has been used for ‘BUY THIS PRINT’ allowing viewers to easily order a print version if preferred.

-  The search bar is located at the top on the right hand side, once again enabling viewers to quickly /easily access what they are looking for

-  The first article is dis[layed as a huge image (main image) with the typography also being a bit big (all san serif) unlike the masthead. The use of a san serif font has been used to show that this real life website is different in comparison to the more conventional ones.

-  Both the large image and bold font used for the main cover lines (placed over the image) have been used to grab the reader's attention as well as engage them read to read further/scroll down.

Platinum:

-  Platinum website is quite different compared to the Happiful website as the stories and images presented on the platinum website do not take up the whole webpage (width) whereas, Happiful does.

-  Platinum has a large bold masthead which is also a serif font directly placed in the centre of the webpage but still does use its usual typeface, serif helps the letters to stand out clearly to audiences.

-  The navigation and search bar are both underneath the masthead in the middle, again making it clear to audiences how and where they can find the story type that they would like to read.

-  Below this, there's a main image which promotes editions of the magazine to people (offer) which is not the case for the Happiful website since its main image is a story.

-  As for the latest posts/stories, this website features the latest posts without dates but, Happiful include dates on their latest posts so that readers can see when they were published. Although Platinum does not include dates on their stories, they still maintain the order of publication by adding the most recent stories at the top.

-  Platinum's stories are about people, style and food & drink whilst Happifuls' stories are about wellbeing, news and lifestyle.
